Fundamentals of Design
For our final project in Fundamentals of Design, our professor assigned us to choose any song, and create a staging inside a box that reflected the themes within our chosen song. I chose to craft a box and stage after Hozier’s “Take Me to Church”.
One of our assignments in this design class was to make a collage we felt reflected who we are. I chose a variety of artistic expressions such as texture, shape, color, and even some poetry.

My professor for History of Theatre II asked us to research any early 20th century playwrights and teach the class about them. In my research, I found that many playwrights of color’s work were either lost completely or hard to find due to insufficient care taken to their work. I decided to create a presentation that educated the class on this issue, focusing on Eulalie Spence in particular.

My professor, Eric Holm, encouraged us to reach our ultimate level of creativity for our final showcase of work at the end of the semester. (Our final showcase being up to a 20 minute piece directed by ourselves.) I decided to write my own play for my show with the help of Harper LaRoche. This is that play. This play is a result of a shared belief between my co-playwright and I that theatre can be both a mirror and a megaphone.
