TEACHING PHILOSOPHY

Theatre is one of the ultimate forms of true collaboration. It ignites conversation, encourages collective creativity, and inspires team building. As an educator, my role is to give my students the space to experience this kind of collaboration and to be successful in what they seek out to do whether that is Theatre or any other aspiration. I believe that fostering empathy and open-mindedness in the classroom prepares students to engage meaningfully with others. My aim is to build a supportive environment where every student feels valued, motivated, and encouraged to express themselves.

As a theatre educator, I believe in creating spaces where every student feels valued and empowered to fully express who they are in any moment. My teaching is grounded in the idea that theatre is not just a form of artistic expression, but an outlet for self-discovery, empathy, and change. My aim is to create a classroom and rehearsal room where students can take creative risks without fear, and where their identities are affirmed, and their ideas are honored. My work with students with disabilities and involvement in diverse educational environments have taught me that there is no one single method for each student. I design my lessons to meet my students where they are, and ensure each day is adaptable to the ever changing circumstances, and I use multiple ways of expression to engage them whether through movement, voice, writing, or collaborative storytelling.

Ultimately, I teach to empower. I want my students to leave my classroom not just with the technical skills of theatre, but with a deeper understanding of who they are and how they can shape the world around them.
